Probably one of the most unkempt and dirty places I have seen throughout the Asian Islands. The clean spots are those maintained by some resort operators, but are few and far between. The Oceans surrounding the Islands have been heavily impacted on by fishing, mainly by the use dynamite and fine mesh nets, which are indiscriminate and produces a significant by-catch. It is a reflection on the authorities that have allowed such a potentially beautiful region go to such decay...but there seems to be a glimmer of hope on the horizon, with islands like Cebu being cleaned up and the surrounding marine ecosystems afforded some protection.
